09:00 Fri 19 May 2006

Members of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) approved the budget for 2006.

It totals 2.431 million leva. Funds would come from sponsors and the state agency for youth and sport, BGNES Sport agency reported.

Nearly 460 000 leva have already been spent on Bulgarian participation in the Turin Winter Olympics.

Representatives of the committee said they hope to finish the year with a budget surplus. In 2005, the committee registered a net loss of 317 000 leva.

BOC representatives said Bulgarian athletes performed well in the Turin games. This is the third consecutive time Bulgaria ends Winter Olympics with medals, BOC said.

Committee representatives approved the proposal for re-evaluation of Bulgaria’s winter sports development potential. Concerns arise the country would lack quality athletes for the next Winter Olympics.
