According to a poll of the Libyan online publication Al-Manara the Bulgarian nurses charged with intentional HIV infection of more than 400 Libyan children would be released.
The nurses have spent seven years in Libyan prison already. A court sentenced them to death but in the end of 2005 Libya's Supreme Court ordered re-trial, thus overruling the previous sentences.
Only 11 per cent of the participants in the poll believe that the court in Tripoli would confirm the death sentences. According to 35 per cent of the people surveyed an agreement would be reached and the families of the infected children would receive financial compensation.
According to 54 per cent of the polled Libyans the Bulgarians would be released, Al Manara reported.
On August 29 the prosecution in the case called for confirmation of the death sentences. Prosecutor Omar Abdulhalek said that the infection was a 'human catastrophe' and deserved the most severe punishment.
The next court sitting would take place on September 5.
