Bulgarian National Television (BNT) will generate over five million leva profit from broadcasting World Cup 2006.
The money comes mainly from commercials and sponsorship deals, BNT's marketing and advertising representative Dimitar Dimitrov told Dnevnik newspaper. The figure included profit from barter deals as well, Dimitrov said.
Obtaining the World Cup 2006 broadcast rights was successful investment, Dimitrov said. Commercial breaks lasted the record eight minutes and included over 30 clips, Dnevnik newspaper said.
During the world cup final commercial breaks are expected to exceed 12 minutes, Dimitrov said.
The broadcast license was bought in May 2005 for 3.5 million leva, Dimitrov said.
In comparison, BNT bought the broadcast rights for World Cup 2004 in Japan and Korea for 4.5 million euro and failed to generate profit.
The main World Cup 2006 sponsor, M-Tel mobile phone operator, paid BNT over 900 000 leva. The price of a 30 second clip varies from 3 900 to 6 900 leva. Broadcasting a clip during the World Cup Final would cost as much as 8 100 leva, Dnevnik said.
