The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) announced the highest basic interest rates in six year's time.
From January 1 2008, the basic interest rate was set at 4.68 per cent, the highest rate since January 2002, when BNB fixed the interest rate at 4.78 per cent.
The new basic interest rate was an increase compared to December 2007 of 0.1 per cent, Bulgarian Investment Agency BIA said.
The interest rate increase was part of a continued trend, from 3.43 per cent at the beginning of 2007, to 4.6 per cent in November that year.
