One of the major trials in Bulgaria, the murder case of Yambol attorney Nadezhda Georgieva, was put on hold for an indefinite period of time because one of an extradition procedure against one of the defendants, which is still under way in the UK.
Georgieva had been found dead in her home in February 2002.
The prosecution accused Orlin Avramov, Plamen Kalaidjiev and his wife Dimitrinka Kalaidjieva of the murder.
Kalaidjieva had been a trailed in absence so far, until she was arrested in the UK.
On January 28 2008, the Sofia Prosecution discontinued the trial as the UK launched an extradition procedure against Kalaidjieva. Bulgarias authorities said they would try to speed up the extradition procedure, mediapool.bg said.
Prosecution could still resume the trial without the presence of Kalaidjieva, if they would decide to do so.
During the trial, witnesses Plamen Simov and Nanka Koleva accused former Bulgarian Prosecutor-General Nikola Filchev under oath of murdering Georgieva. Simov is the former head of the union of sailors and Nanka Koleva is the widow of prosecutor Nikolai Kolev, who was shod dead in public in 2002.
The two defendants Avramov and Kalaidjiev had already stated that they were not interested in further delays of the trial. They were convinced that the court would find them not guilty.
