BULGARIAN MUNICIPAL COUNCILS LEAVE WITH ROW OVER DEALS
09:12 Tue 02 Oct 2007

Hundreds of rows over real estate deals, dubious auctions and coalitions based on economic interests marked the end of a four year mandate of municipal councils.

Traditionally, on the last meeting before local elections, most decisions were taken with most controversies, Dnevnik daily reported.

Most active were municipal councilors along the seaside. In the session of the municipal council in Varna an unexpected consensus was reached about two important issues. A construction company for the construction of the first waste-processing factory in Bulgaria was selected and 38 000 sq m of land were given in concession to Chimimport without concession payment.

The prosecution has started an investigation into the auction for the factory construction, Dnevnik said.

In the last moment, municipal councilors in Nessebar voted for land swaps and changes in zoning plans for Ravda, Obzor and Slunchev Bryag.
During the last meeting of the municipal council, councilors managed to vote on hundreds of construction permissions and destination changes of land along the beach, Dnevnik reported.

And so they succeeded in permitting construction in Irakli, despite the fact that it is on its way to become protected under the European Unions Natura 2000 project, Dnevnik said.
