A Balkan centre against human trafficking is needed, National Movement Simeon II (NMSII) Antonia Purvanova said.
A human trafficking debate in the European Parliament last week gave birth to the idea. Such centre can be located in Bulgaria due to the countrys key geographic position on the Balkans, Purvanova said.
European co-operation, rather than independent measures in different countries will be needed to solve the human trafficking problem, said Purvanova. Regional centres should receive EU finding, the Bulgarian MP said.
Prostitution and human trafficking are deep problems that need profound measures to be stopped, Purvanova said. These measures should either aim to forbid such practices and provide protection for victims and witnesses, said she.
Human, as well as drug trafficking, accumulates significant resource which also fuels corruption schemes, said Purvanova. These schemes affect even high administrative levels. If the chain is not broken the problem cannot be tackled, said Purvanova.
