Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB) Member of Parliament Atanas Atanasov sent questions to Parliament in which he asks Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev for the resignation of 14 deputy ministers, who had been accused by the National Audit Office (NAO) of having failed to properly declare their incomes for 2006.
The questions were sent to Parliament on January 24, one day after the announcement of the NAO that 195 Bulgarian officials were caught with discrepancies in their income tax declarations, mediapool.bg said.
Not declared were incomes from participation in the management of both state-owned and private companies, real estate ownership and motor vehicle ownership.
As sofiaecho.com reported on January 24, most common reason given by those named by the NAO were vaguenesses in the law and technical mistakes.
Besides 14 deputy ministers, the list of officials published by the NAO included also 19 members of parliament, as well as 33 judges, 19 prosecutors and 50 mayors and deputy mayors.
