BULGARIAN MINISTER MEETS UNIONS, PRIME MINSTERS ANSWERS QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT AFTER PROTESTS

Bulgarian Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski met with representatives labour union KT Podkrepa and unions KNSB on October 12.

Topic of discussions at the meeting was the 2008 budget, vice president of KNSB Valentin Nikiforov was quoted by Focus news agency as saying.

Oresharski and the unions agreed to arrange a meeting on Monday October 15 between experts of the ministry and representatives of the unions, where the complete 2008 budget would be discussed.

At the meeting, representatives of the unions emphasised that education should a priority.

Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev would answer questions in parliament on October 12, a National Assembly press statement said.

Both independent parliament member Mariya Kapon and leader of Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria Ivan Kostov asked question about the status of the Bulgarian educational system and the necessity of a strategy for its development.
