Bulgarian and Romanian migrant workers might relocate to the UK by Christmas, Daily Express said.
UK might abolish visa requirements for Bulgarians and Romanians even before the two countries’ official EU accession on January 1 2007. The government still had to decide whether to restrict Bulgarian and Romanian’s access to the UK labour market.
If the British government abolished visa restrictions, citizens of the two countries would be allowed to enter any of the EU members, including the UK, Daily express said.
Migrant workers would ‘flock’ to the UK and start looking for jobs as soon as January 1, Daily Express said.
The government was considered some control over labour market access, but the control would not apply to migrants who wanted to start their own business or to “come as a visitor and then slip under the radar and work on the black market”, Daily Express said.
