16:23 Fri 24 Aug 2007

The six Bulgarian medics who returned from Libya after spending eight and a half years in prison for deliberate HIV infection met EU ambassadors.

The meeting was initiated by the medics themselves, Bulgarian National Radio reported.

They discussed with EU countries ambassadors a plan for the medics integration into society after the years spent in prison.

The medics thanked the EU, European institutions and the public for their support and contribution to their release.

The meeting took place in the embassy of Portugal, which currently holds the EU presidency. All medics except Kristiana Vulcheva and Snezhana Dimitrova were present at the meeting.

Zdravko Georgiev, one of the medics who were imprisoned in Libya and afterwards released, said that the medics needed a continuous help. He said that there were two sides in the trial, the HIV infected children and their families and the other was the medics who were also victims.
