Supreme magistrates in Bulgaria were satisfied with the European Commission (EC) monitoring report presented on September 26, mediapool.bg reported.
The EC report recommended Bulgaria's EU entry on January 1 2007.
Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) head Konstantin Penchev said that he suspected Bulgarian institutions would slow up the reforms pace if the EC monitoring stopped.
“I don not think that Bulgaria's judiciary is the worst in the EU”, Penchev said.
Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev said that he was extremely pleased with the report. The report was objective, he said.
Velchev said that he had insisted on monitoring during all his meetings with EC representatives.
The Supreme Court of Cassation (SCS) head Ivan Grigorov said that a small, delicate amount of humiliation for the Bulgarian institutions existed in the EC report. It was a warning to everyone involved in politics and the judiciary. Still, the report was very positive for Bulgaria, he said.
