BULGARIAN LAWSUITS AGAINST LIBIAN OFFICERS HINDERS RELATIONS – LIBYA
17:44 Fri 21 Sep 2007

The lawsuits against the torturers of the Bulgarian nurses hinders good relations between the two countries according to Libya.

Vice Minister External Affairs Feim Chaushev said three days before his visit to Tripoli in an interview with Darik Radio, that Tripoli did not pressure to end the cases against the Libyan officers in Bulgaria, but expressed an opinion.

“There are no outstanding issues between Sofia and Tripoli as far as the Bulgarian nurses are concerned”, said Chaushev.

He intended to ask what happened with the slander lawsuit which the Libyan officers brought against the nurses. “According to me, after this drama had ended, this suit should have been dropped. From a purely legal point of view I would like to get an answer to these questions,” he said.

80 per cent of the salary of the lawyer of the Palestinian doctor Ashraf Hadjudj has been paid, the percentage Bulgaria agreed to pay. The salary of the Libian defender Osman Bizanti has been fully paid, Chaushev said.

“Those were not small amounts. For more than eight years Bulgaria has paid a considerable sum for the nurses. I mean their expenses for livelihood and so on” he said.

During his visit to Tripoli he would discuss buying the building of the Bulgarian Embassy Tripoli.

The price of the real estate is 4.5 million Libyan Dinar (2.5 million euro).

Bulgaria and Libya could co-operate on construction, military industry and agriculture, Chaushev said.
