BULGARIAN ICE DANCING CHAMPION ‘TESTS POSITIVE’ FOR BLOOD ALCOHOL AFTER CRASH IN WHICH MAN DIES
Bulgaria's world ice dancing champion Maxim Staviski tested positive for alcohol after a car crash in which a man died and a passenger was seriously injured, police said August 6.
Staviski's Hummer sport utility vehicle collided with two cars late on August 5 on a bridge near the coastal city of Bourgas, according to the Associated Press.
The Russian-born ice dancer was not injured in the crash. He could face criminal charges.
The driver of one of the other two cars was seriously injured and died later in hospital. A woman passenger was admitted to hospital in a coma.
A blood test showed that Staviski was over the legal driving limit for alcohol, an Interior Ministry spokesperson said, but declined to specify by how much.
With dance partner and girlfriend, Albena Denkova, Staviski won the ice dancing event at the 2006 World Figure Skating Championships in Calgary.

 | Another needless tragedy perpetrated by someone who has lent his public image to an anti drink-driving campaign! The most severe penalties must be applied, to serve as a lesson to all.
So very sad especially for the families of the innocent victims. | |
