BULGARIAN FORMER EXAMINING MAGISTRATE FOUND GUILTY OF DEMANDING BRIBE

Sofia Municipal Court (SMC) has found former a examining magistrate guilty of demanding a bribe.

The former magistrate was found guilty of demanding a bribe of 1000 leva for dropping an ongoing investigation again Milen and Valeriya Marinovi on October 20 1995.

She received a one year jail sentence, suspended for three years, and she was ordered to pay 160 leva court expenses, mediapool.bg said.

Maximum punishment under Bulgarian law for corruption is up to six years in jail and a 5 000 leva fine.
The former magistrate had not been sentenced a fine.

Both sides have 15 days to appeal the decision.
