10:54 Tue 04 Sep 2007

Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin met in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, with his Kazakhstan counterpart Marat Tazhin as part of his tour of several Central Asian states.

Opportunities for bilateral cooperation in power production, transport, economy and tourism were discussed during the meeting.

One of the projects discussed was the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline, which will allow the transportation of oil from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, Focus News Agency said.

Kazakhstan showed interest in the project.

Bulgaria is currently transporting Russian oil but is also interested in diversifying its energy source supplies.

A business forum focusing on possibilities for enhancing trade and economic exchange between the two countries will take place within the visit’s framework.
