Bulgarian film Шивачки/Seamstresses (Lyudmil Todorov, 2007) won a special mention in the East of the West competition category at the 43rd Karolvy Vary International Film Festival, which closed on July 12 2008.
Producers Vlado Shishkov and Petya Braykova accepted the award.
The winner of the East of the West Award – and US$10 000 – was the movie Tulpan by director Sergey Dvortsevoy (2008), a Kazakhstan, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Poland co-production.
Denmark's Henrik Ruben Genz took home the Grand Prix Crystal Globe and $30 000 with his film Frygtelig Lykkelig/Terribly Happy (2008).
