About 300 families whose houses were destroyed by the floods during the summer are still homeless. According to official information about 500 buildings were damaged after Bulgaria was hit by downpours. In the Dobrich region, where snow falls have already been registered, only three houses have been renewed. Seventy buildings are undergoing repair works at the moment.
Disaster Management Minister Emel Etem said that all families would have a shelter by the start of the winter. The disaster management committee allocated 120 million leva for repair works but the amount has been depleted. Homeless families were to be sheltered in new buildings. Delay in construction works, however, led to the necessity for the purchase of 313 trailers. The trailers meet all European housing standards, Etem said. The tender for the supplying company started last week. Most of the trailers will be needed for Elin Pelin and the Kaloyanovo region. The price of trailers is half of that for the construction of new shelters, experts said. Between two and three families will share one trailer, Trud newspaper reported.
