BULGARIAN COASTAL CONSTRUCTION CUTS VACATION PRICES
02:00 Wed 14 Sep 2005

The excessive construction taking place at Bulgaria's Black Sea coast is bringing down the prices of holiday packages. Analysts said that foreign tourists would benefit from cheaper accommodation services, starting next season. In order to attract enough visitors to their hotels, owners are signing cheaper deals with tourism agencies. These developments are also leading to the sale of numerous hotels. Owners are unable to make reasonable profits because of the high level of competition. Deals with international tourism agencies show that Germans will benefit from lower prices. The decrease would not be significant, between three and four per cent of the current prices. Agencies organising vacations in Bulgaria will try to attract more tourists to visit at the end of spring. April will see major discounts, compared to the peak months of the summer season. Data shows that most tourists prefer four-star hotels. The high supply in the tourism sector will naturally lead to lower prices, analysts said. The tourism boom in previous years led to an artificial price increase, which would be regulated in the coming seasons, Dnevnik newspaper reported.
