BULGARIAN CITIZEN KIDNAPPED IN GAZA STRIP RETURNS HOME

Khalid al Mughir, a Palestinian with Bulgarian citizenship kidnapped in the Gaza Strip, arrived in Sofia on July 9 2007.

Al Mughir was kidnapped by the Palestinian group Hamas on July 4 2007, two days before the evacuation of Bulgarian citizens from the area, Bulgarian news agency BTA said.

Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry offered to evacuate all Bulgarian citizens from the zone after Hamas occupied the Gaza Strip.

Hamas kidnapped Al Mughir from his home in Gaza, because he supports the opponent Al Fatah party.

Al Mughir was released on July 8 and transferred through Israel to Jordan. He was probably tortured.
