The Bulgarian Christmas charity 2007 campaign under the patronage of President Georgi Purvanov and the first lady Zorka Purvanova, collected more than 2.6 million leva.
The sum was donated at the end of a concert held in the National Theatre Ivan Vazov, netinfo.bg reported.
Some of Bulgaria’s most prominent musicians, including Lili Ivanova, Toni Dimitrova, Elitsa Dimitrova and Stoyan Yankulov, together with the volleyball international Plamen Konstantinov, took part in the show.
The campaign is held annually to collect money for medical treatment of children and for the purchase of medical equipment for children's clinics and wards in the country.
This year, part of the money collected will be used for expensive medical treatment of 37 children, which is not covered by the National Health Insurance Fund. Twenty-six of the children have already received financial aid for their treatment by the campaign.
The rest of the sum will be used to buy equipment for 13 hospitals in the country.
Everyone, who would like to donate money to the campaign, could do so until the end of 2007 by calling to 0900 1117 for Bulgarian Telecommunications Company clients or calling and sending SMSs to 1117 for clients of all mobile phone operators. The price of the calls and the SMSs is one lev.
The Bank account open for donations is United Bulgarian Bank number IBAN: BG13UBBS80023300186210, bank code BIС: UBBSBGSF, UBB, Central branch office. The account will be opened until the end of January 2008.
