BULGARIAN AUTHORITIES TO DECIDE ON ELECTIONS, NOT EC- HUMPHREYS
18:19 Thu 15 Nov 2007 - Elitsa Savova

The results of the elections and the way these elections are held is a responsibility of the Bulgarian government, not of the European Commission (EC), Michael Humphreys, head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria said.

According to Humphreys, the two tours of the municipal elections in Bulgaria were completely democratic.

If there were irregularities in the procedure and the carrying out of the elections, these were civil problems and problems of the local media and the corresponding institutions had to investigate such cases, he was quoted by Bulgarian news agency BTA as saying.

It did not refer and was not a duty of the EC, Humphreys said.

Humphreys also said that it would soon be announced which Bulgarian would take up the post of head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria. The EC has already started a procedure for the election of the new head of the EC Representation.
