The jury of the 52nd international art exhibition La Biennale di Venezia has awarded the Honourable Mention for an artist exhibited in the central international exhibition to Bulgarian artist Nedko Solakov.
Four Golden Lions and two Honourable Mentions had been presented in an award ceremony on October 17, in the Teatro alle Tese dell’Arsenale di Venezia, a festival press statement said.
A Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement had been presented on June 10th by the Board of Directors of the Biennale di Venezia to the artist Malick Sidibé from Mali.
The jury report said that Solakov's installation in the Arsenale in Venice "impressed the Jury with its content, presentation and particular relevance to its location." The jury referred to Solakov as "an artist whose aesthetic projects span a diverse range of strategies, and in recognition of the provocative links he suggests between culture, politics and symbolic representation."
La Biennale di Venezia is one of Europe's most prominent international art exhibitions and has been visited by more than 232 000 visitors in about 100 opening days.
The festival ends November 21 2007.
