Actor Andrei Batashov was sworn in as Member of the Parliament (MP) from the parliamentary group of the National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP).

Batashov would represent the Pleven region, Focus news agency reported.

He succeeds the post of Alexander Filipov, who replaced Anelia Mingova as head of the Parliamentary group. Filipov is Deputy Disaster Management Minister and had asked to be released from his position as MP.

In the beginning of October 2007, Mingova was elected member of the new Supreme Judicial Council.

NMSP is still to elect head of the Parliamentary group.

Batashov currently performs at the theatre Sulza i Smyah (a tear and a smile) in Sofia.
