Bulgaria's national football team made a record-breaking jump in FIFA's November World Ranking, Bulgarian National Radio BNR reported.
Bulgarian national football team entered the Top 20 by climbing up to the 18th spot with 877 points. This was 16 positions ahead, compared to last month's 34th spot.
In November coach Dimitar Penev's team defeated Romania by 1:0 and Slovenia by 2:0, which contributed to its progress in the ranking. However, this was cold comfort for the missed chance of qualifying for Euro 2008, BNR commented.
The high ranking of the Bulgarian national football team guaranteed it a place in pot two for the 2010 World Cup preliminary draw to be held on November 25 in Durban, South Africa.
There were no changes at the top of FIFA's ranking. Argentina was in the lead with 1523 points, followed by Brazil (1502) and Italy (1498).
