BULGARIA WILL BE PART OF RESOLVING EU’S PROBLEMS – PRIME MINISTER
11:02 Thu 19 Oct 2006

Enlargement was Europe’s only way to become stronger, Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev told French newspaper Croix last week.

Bulgaria would successfully play its role in the EU enlargement debate, he said during his working visit to Paris.

Bulgaria’s path to EU accession was difficult and the country had to make a lot of sacrifices, Stanishev said. But EU accession had also speeded up the reforms that Bulgaria had to carry out.

Stanishev said that new and old EU countries should not oppose one another, because they were all benefiting from the enlargement process.

He said that Bulgaria contracted France for the modernisation of Bulgaria’s military helicopters. The contract was for 60 million euro.

Thus Bulgaria would create jobs in France, Stanishev told Croix.

Congratulations Prime Minister. You hit it right on the nail. Bulgaria is helping to create jobs in France and this is what economic, social and territorial cohesion in the EU is all about. Bulgaria is truly ready to join the European family of nations. The country still has its problems to solve and to make adjustments but the spirit is there and Bulgaria will be a force for good in the EU. Keep up the good work and fight the bureaucracy whether it is in Bulgaria or elsewhere. Show the citizens that politicians can really make a difference to their lives.
