09:19 Fri 27 Oct 2006

The state would provide crime victims and their relatives with financial aid varying from 250 to 5000 leva.

This measure features in new regulations for aiding crime victims, accepted on first reading in the National Assembly on October 26, Darik Radio reported.

Financial aid should be seen as humane treatment on behalf of the state, the explanation of the draft law said. It defines the help that victims that have incurred financial loss as a result of crime would receive from the state.

The state would provide aid to victims of human trafficking, rape and terrorism, Darik reported.

Relatives of murder victims would also receive compensation worth 10 000 leva. A national council would be responsible for the distribution of funds. Victims and their relatives would also be entitled to medical, legal and psychological aid.

Also on October 26 MPs accepted on second reading changes to personal data regulations.

Parties that use personal data, without having permits for such activities, would be fined from 2000 to 20 000 leva.
