The negotiations with the concessionaire of the Trakia highway for improvements in the concession agreement would last less than two months, Regional Development Minister Assen Gagauzov said.
A consortium of Bulgarian and Portuguese companies received the concession rights over the highway without a public tender. Despite objections, the Supreme Administrative Court ruled out that the deal was legal and now the Cabinet seeks improvements in the agreement's parametres.
Provided such improvements were achieved, the Cabinet would grant the consortium right to continue with the highway construction, Gagauzov told the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
The expert group in charge of the negotiations will begin work this week, BNR said.
Gagauzov was present at the opening of a renovated part of the Sliven- Bourgas road. The road reconstruction was financed by EU's ISPA programme and the state budget. The programme aims at renovating the roads, part of the international transport network.
