It was too early to comment on the upcoming European Commission report on Bulgaria's readiness to become EU member but the country should be prepared for positive evaluation, Spanish ambassador to Bulgaria Fernando Arias said.
The country should also be prepared for the eventual introduction of safeguard clauses for critical areas, Arias said as quoted by Focus news agency.
Such measures should be seen as an attempt to speed up reforms in areas that have stayed behind, Arias said.
Both the current and the previous Bulgarian cabinets worked hard to implement all reforms related to the accession of the two countries. All achievements, Arias said, were going to be presented in the September 26 EC report.
Bulgaria was also moving along the right track when it came to the utilisation of EU funds, said Arias.
