BULGARIA TO CO-OPERATE WITH BLACK SEA COUNTRIES BORDER AUTHORITIES
13:58 Tue 23 Oct 2007

On October 23 2007, border authorities heads of the six countries in the Black Sea region signed a co-operation agreement in the Bulgarian coastal resort Sunny Beach.

The signing was held during the work meeting of the Black Sea region countries, Romania, Ukraine, Russian Federation, Georgia, Turkey and Bulgaria, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) reported.

Bulgarian Interior Minister Roumen Petov, who opened the meeting, said that global political and economic problems as well as recent events determine the common striving for deeper co-operation of the border authorities of the Black Sea countries.

Organised crime activities, focusing of human trafficking and drug and weapon smuggling was inevitable, he said.

That was why the international co-ordination border centre was situated in Bourgas. Currently the entire Black Sea traffic was monitored in real time, Petkov said.

More than 300 violators had been registered in 2006.
