Bulgaria would be a 'very successful' EU member, German chancellor Angela Merkel said after a meeting with Bulgaria's Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev.
Stanishev and Merkel discussed Bulgaria's EU membership and other matters of common interest, Darik Radio reported.
Germany and EU appreciated highly Bulgaria's clear pro-European policy and stabilising role on the Balkans, Stanishev said.
German officials said that Germany had the political will to end the process of Bulgaria and Romania's EU accession treaty ratification.
Germany, Denmark and France are the three EU members that still need to ratify Bulgaria's EU accession treaty.
