Bulgaria has the political will to work for on-time EU entry on January 1 2007, Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said during a visit to Bulgaria’s Plovdiv.
Rasmussen said that his Bulgarian counterpart Sergei Stanishev informed him of all the reforms Bulgaria was trying to implement to guarantee EU accession as scheduled.
Several areas still needed significant amount of work, Rasmussen said quoted by Focus news agency. The Bulgarian government was going to receive further stimuli to ensure the creation of an objective and transparent judicial system, said he.
Bulgaria had to continue its efforts in the fight against organised crime and corruption, Rasmussen said.
Despite the difficulties the government was making an effort and European countries were going to be glad to welcome Bulgaria into the EU on January 1 2007, said the Danish prime minister.
