Sofia received 14 additional points in the ranking of cities applying to host the Winter Olympics in 2014.

Ranking is based on the index Around the Rings, the most prestigious placement of candidate cities, BGNES Sport agency reported.

The latest edition of the index is based on direct observation of developments in the candidate cities over the past six months.

According to the chart, Sofia ranks fourth. Austria's Salzburg ranks first because of the serious infrastructure and technical developments, BGNES reported.

PyeongChang in Korea ranks second and Russia's Sochi takes the third place.

On June 22 the International Olympic Committee will announce which candidate cities would continue to the next selection round. IOC is expected to select three or four candidates.

BGNES reported the selected cities could be the ones mentioned in the top positions of the chart.
