BULGARIA'S ULTRA-NATIONALISTS TO APPEAL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION RESULTS
10:21 Mon 06 Nov 2006

Ultra-nationalist movement Ataka, whose presidential candidate lost elections on October 29 2006, will appeal the elections results.

Ataka’s deputy leader and vice president nominee Pavel Shopov told Dnevnik daily that the movement was examining the appeal procedure and was classifying evidence of elections manipulation and falsification of results.

As early as the night of the elections Shopov said that election procedure violations occurred.

Vote secrecy was violated as ballots were unfolding in the transparent ballot-boxes, Shopov said.

Such developments pressured Ataka voters, he said. Shopov accused re-elected President Georgi Purvanov of manipulating the voters by bribing the Roma population with “suitcases of money.”

Ataka will first appeal the results before the Supreme Administrative Court. If the appeal was overruled, Ataka would appeal before the Constitutional Court, said Shopov.
