The Trakia Highway construction contract will be examined by the Cabinet by the end of September 2007.
Shortly afterwards, the Government will launch tenders for the construction of the highway section between Stara Zagora and Karnobat, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Assen Gagaouzov said, as quoted by Novinar daily.
Gagaouzov launched the renovated third-class road section between the villages of Sredets, Opan and Vassil Levski in the Stara Zagora region.
The section of Trakia Highway between Chirpan and Stara Zagora will be opened on October 5 2007. The section was built with loan money provided by European Investment Bank (EIB).
Bulgaria will have to repay the loan to EIB immediately because the Government granted the Trakia Highway construction concession without tender to a Bulgarian-Portuguese company.
Gagaouzov said that the highway construction can be delayed no longer. He said that Bulgaria expected the European Commission's decision on the concession.
