Authorities in Bulgaria had enough political will to guarantee the stability in the country, Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev said on his visit to Pazardjik.
Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski and Education Minister Daniel Vulchev’s resignations would not contribute to a resolution of the problems with the demands of the teachers, he said as quoted by Bulgarian news agency BTA.
The teachers demand higher salaries and went on effective strike on September 24 2007. Media recorded an exposing conversation between Oresharski and Vulchev, which made clear that they had no intentions to have real negotiation on the teachers’ demands.
According to Stanishev, the state was developing gradually, but the classes showed impatience. It was Cabinet’s duty to guarantee a raise in the income in all sectors, but that was possible only if there was a real dialogue.
The teachers’ unions put the Cabinet in dead-lock, by refusing to change their demands, Stanishev said. Meeting their demands would lead to hyperinflation and destabilisation of the currency board in the country.
The cabinet would not let any pressure destroy the currency board.
