On January 1 2007 Bulgaria was going to have a stable ruling coalition, Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev said commenting on the Cabinet's first year in office.
Bulgaria's expected EU entry in the beginning of next year gave the country a chance for overall modernisation, Stanishev said. This chance had to be used wisely as Bulgarian officials could miss it and respectively the benefits related to it, said Stanishev.
Focus news agency quoted Stanishev as saying the state and municipal administration needed to be re-organised to make full use of the opportunities related to the EU membership.
The Cabinet was going to continue working on anti-corruption and anti-crime measures, said Stanishev.
Stanishev also said the Cabinet was going to seek financial stability and improvement of budgetary policies in the future. Tighter control over the spending of public funds was needed, said Stanishev.
Bulgaria still lacked policies encouraging export and the Cabinet was going to work on a set of such measures as well, Stanishev said.
