BULGARIA'S PROSECUTOR-GENERAL TO REQUEST MAGISTRATE IMMUNITY REMOVAL
09:00 Thu 26 Oct 2006

Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev would request the removal of the immunity of two prosecutors.

Both of them are Varna regional prosecutors, Novinar newspaper reported.

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) would examine the request for the taking away of the immunities of Tony Tomov and Karen Beileryan next week.

Velchev said that all magistrates whose work was investigated would probably be stripped off of their immunity.

Sofia regional prosecutors also faced court investigation, Novinar newspaper reported.

In addition, two members of the SJC have not declared their assets yet, the newspaper reported. Nearly 15 other magistrates also failed declaring their assets as a part of the Clean Hands operation that Velchev launched in May.

In May Velchev requested assets declaration from all justice officials, which had to be made public via internet.
