Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev requested the dismissal of supreme magistrates Nikolai Ganchev and Zdravko Yordanov.
Ganchev was given the chance to resign to avoid a corruption investigation, mediapool.bg reported. Since Ganchev refused to resign he would be most probably dismissed.
The dismissal request would be tabled in the Supreme Judicial Council, mediapool.bg reported.
Ganchev said that his professional behaviour did not violate any regulations and therefore motivation for his dismissal was missing.
Velchev requested additional investigation of the alleged involvement of other magistrates with organised criminal groups. If enough evidence was collected, Velchev would request the removal of magistrate immunity for all parties involved.
Next week Velchev would request the dismissal of Yordanov, as well. Yordanov is former head of Sofia's investigation office. An inspection of Yordanov's work revealed numerous violations in the past five years, mainly concerning unjustified delays in trials.
On Monday Velchev said he would travel to Brussels, were he would acquaint enlargement commissioner Olli Rehn and justice commissioner Franco Frattini with anti-corruption measures in the country.
