Bulgaria's Prosecutor-General Nikola Filchev ordered the implementation of measures against the spread of bird flu. Filchev requested the scheduling of as many meetings as possible among representatives of the health, agriculture and water and environment ministries. Regional prosecutors will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the measures, Novinar newspaper reported.
After a three-hour debate, Parliament's health committee approved a draft declaration listing the urgent measures that Bulgaria must take against bird flu. Parliament requested from the Cabinet full and accurate information on the current situation in the country, including the required quantities of vaccine and equipment. Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski said that Bulgaria had enough bird flu medication, and further amounts were expected soon. Yesterday, the Turkish health ministry confirmed that bird flu had caused the death of a child last week. The total number of infected people in the country is 18, and three have already died.
