Members of the commission for declassification of the communist-era secret services and MPs accused President Georgi Purvanov of attempts to clear his name by blaming someone else.
The commission had found that Purvanov worked for the services from 1989 to 1993.
On August 12 2007, Purvanov said that the law for declassification of the former secret service archives and the declassification committee let real agents remain unknown, while slandering people “who worked in favour of the country”, Dnevnik daily said.
According to the committee, Purvanov’s statement was "partial". The archives clearly proved that Purvanov was an agent. The committee said that it heeded the law when announcing Purvanov’s file.
If Purvanov disliked the law, he could veto it, the committee said, as quoted by Dnevnik.
