Being able to mobilise voters was the key to the success of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), President Georgi Purvanov said in a letter to the party management.
All effort put in the presidential elections was worth it, Purvanov said. The result was unprecedented as no candidate previously won such decisive victory, said he.
Purvanov won a second term in office. The second most popular candidate, ultra-nationalist movement Ataka leader Volen Siderov, gathered significantly lower percentage of the votes.
During his second term Purvanov promised to remain 'the president of all Bulgarians,' just like the elections slogan said.
The function of the president was also to correct and criticise policies suggested by the ruling parties, Purvanov's letter said as quoted by Focus news agency.
