The nominal value of Bulgaria's national debt and state guaranteed debt in the end of 2006 totaled 6.2 billion euro of which 4.7 billion euro are foreign debt and 1.5 billion euro internal debt.
State debt decreased by 647.6 million euro compared to figures for 2005, Dnevnik daily reported. The decrease was attributed mainly to the stable economic growth and reasonable fiscal policy in the country.
Internal debt increased by nearly 57.8 million euro in 2006. It increased its share of the entire state debt by nearly three per cent for the period from December 2005 to December 2006.
Foreign debt decreased from 705.5 million euro, mainly attributed to the preliminary debt repayments towards the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
Debt in euro increased from 48.7 per cent to 52.8 per cent and debt in leva increased from 14.7 per cent 17.7 per cent.
