09:04 Wed 23 Aug 2006

So far Bulgaria was implementing reforms related to the country’s EU accession in a timely manner, European Integration Minister Meglena Kouneva said during a meeting with other Cabinet members.

Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev also took part in the meeting, Darik Radio reported. Such meetings would occur until September in order to define which projects and reforms needed to be prioritised.

On August 23 National Assembly would vote on changes to the public register. Next week the final version of regulations over the work of parties is expected.

Changes to the Penal Code would be accepted as soon as possible, Kouneva said. Kouneva said she would insist on internal monitoring on the manner in which new regulations were implemented.

Ministers did not discuss changes to the constitution. Kouneva said that if the procedure for amending the constitution started in mid-September, it was going to be mentioned in the final European Commission report on the country’s readiness to join the EU.
