BULGARIA’S INTERIOR MINISTRY TO INVEST IN REPAIRS, VEHICLES AND VIDEO MONITORING

Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry would spend between 130 and 140 million leva by the end of 2007, Interior Minister Roumen Petkov said during a briefing on November 25 2007.

The briefing was dedicated to the complete utilisation of the ministry’s budget for 2007, Foreign Ministry press release said.

Most of this sum, 95.575 million leva amounted to 10 per cent of the ministry’s budget, the other 46 million leva would be granted to the Interior Ministry from the budget surplus.

The sum would be utilised mainly for the provision of equipment. Repairs in three police office in Sofia should be finished by mid-December 2007. Nearly 1100 vehicles, some of which cross-country, would be purchased for the police offices in the cities of Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Rousse, Stara Zagora and Pleven, Petkov said. The ministry would also buy 12 new fire vehicles, worth nearly five million leva.

More than 1.5 million leva would be invested in the construction of sites for collection of biometric data for the new Bulgarian passports. Another 950 000 leva were allocated for hardware and software support.
 
The Interior Ministry would allocate five million leva for the 112 emergency line.

A system for video monitoring in Sofia worth 300 000 leva would be designed. Some 10 million leva would be invested in the installation of the system.
