BULGARIA'S INTERIOR MINISTER ROUMEN PETKOV IN SERBIA
19:39 Mon 12 Nov 2007 - Spasena Baramova

Bulgarian Interior Minister Roumen Petkov was on a visit in Serbia, Bulgarian National Radio BNR reported.

Petkov met his Serbian colleague Dragan Yochich and the two signed a cooperation agreement in Belgrade.

Petkov promised that Bulgarian Interior Ministry would help its Serbian colleagues with its EU accession experience. He said Bulgarians walked a long way towards their EU membership and could help Serbians avoid the mistakes they made.

Yochich explained the agreement he and Petkov signed was for cooperation between the two countries border guard bodies and for security in the region. It would also contribute to social security and to more effective crime control. It provided security for the EU as well, Yochich said.

According to Petkov, the signing of the agreement was a very important political sign for the relations between Bulgaria and Serbia. “Our meeting and talks went far beyond this agreement,” he added.
