BULGARIA'S FIGURE SKATERS WITHOUT MEDALS

Ice dance couple Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski remained fifth in the Turin Olympics figure skating competition after the free dance yesterday.

Russian couple Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov won the gold medal. Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto from the US got the Olympic silver, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.

The Bulgarian couple got 51.34 points for elements execution and 46.69 points for programme components.

In the Salt Lake City Olympics Denkova and Staviski remained seventh. Head of the Bulgarian skating federation Evgenia Kurnolska said the couple made two mistakes, which lead to the fifth place.

Kurnolska said the Bulgarian couples' performance involved a number of difficult elements. The mistakes resulted from tension. Staviski and Denkova are disappointed with the failure to obtain a medal, Focus news agency reported.
