The decision of the German Bundestag to request the introduction of a safeguard clause for Bulgaria and Romania's EU entry would hardly affect Bulgaria, former foreign minister and chairperson of the parliamentary foreign policy committee Solomon Passi said.

It was good that the ratification of the accession treaty ended in nearly all EU member states. As a result Bulgaria was not going to experience any difficulties related to its EU entry on January 1 2007, said Passi as quoted by Darik Radio.

The German decision concerning the introduction of safeguard clauses resulted from domestic policies, Passi said.

European Commission was not going to consider the policies of separate national parliaments, when taking EU-related decisions, said Passi. Since EC representatives have not requested the introduction of a safeguard clause, Bulgaria should not be concerned, said he.

Passi also said that he was satisfied with the selection of European Integration Minister Meglena Kouneva for Bulgaria's European commissioner candidate.

Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev took the right decision and the National Movement Simeon II (NMSII) was content with Kouneva's nomination, said Passi.
