On April 5 President Georgi Purvanov signed a decree according to which ice dance world champions Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski will receive Stara Planina medals.
Denkova and Staviski are two-time holders of the world champions title. They will be awarded because of the significant contribution to the development of Bulgarian sport, the President’s press office said.
The pair won the gold for the first time in Canada’s Calgary in 2006. In the coming year, they managed to defend their title during the world championship in Tokyo, Japan.
Upon their return to Bulgaria, Denkova and Staviski said that they were still undecided whether to continue their sports career. The pair said that a decision will be taken once everything settles down after the world championship.
According to media reports the Bulgarian champions received various offers to continue working abroad but decided to return to Bulgaria.
