Mafia controlled Bulgaria's construction and tourism and used the sectors for money laundering, Polish Warsaw Business Journal said as quoted by mediapool.bg.
The commercial counsellor of Polish embassy to Bulgaria gave Warsaw Business Journal the information.
Bulgaria’s construction boom resulted mainly from the activity of Bulgarian and foreign mafia, the report said.
Mafia's intervention was obvious in some areas of Bulgaria's economy, especially the tourism sector all the way from the hotels to the parking places and the casinos.
Every foreign businessman in Bulgaria was facing mass corruption, a 'jungle' of rules, licenses, requirements and endless certificates, Warsaw Business Journal said. All these impediments could discourage anyone from investing in Bulgaria.
The Polish embassy commercial counsellor told Warsaw Business Journal that Polish businessmen complained that they were pressured by mafia.
